Polikarpov Po-2 was designed in 1927 by Nikolaj Polikarpov in the Soviet Union. The original name of the type was U–2 (Ucsebnyij – Trainer) but after the death of Polikarpov she was renamed to Po–2. The Po–2 is the most built biplane in the World, because more than 10 thousand aircraft were built more than 30 years in the Soviet Union and Poland under license. The nickname was “Kukuruznik” “Corn mill” because of the sound of the engine and propeller. The plane had several tasks during the decades,. She was a basic trainer, a reconnaissance, courier, night bomber plane and after the war a fertilizer, towing and passenger transporter. During the II. WW. the Soviet Air Force used by female pilots and bombers. They flew night time over the German lines and dropped the bombs by hand. The name of the squadron was “Night Witches”. There are a dozen of Po–2s in the World which still in flying condition.This particular aircraft is owned by the Technical and Transportation Museum of Budapest and operated by Goldtimer Foundation Budaörs. Was buit in 1954in Poland. Used by the Hungarian Ministry of Agricultural’s Air Service as a fertilizer aircraft. She retired in 1964 and rebuilt in 1986. Since that time she is airworthy.
