Dear friends,
Yesterday was a sad day for the aviation world.
Walter Eichhorn passed away unexpectedly at the age of 88. We are deeply saddened by this news; our condolences go out to his family and his many friends.
Walter was very special to Hahnweide. For decades, he shaped the event with his very special style. As a true aviator and airline pilot, he traveled all over the world and always stopped by our place. The classic car meeting would never be complete without him.
Walter, we will miss you!
Anyone who has visited us in the past would have first seen the orange noses of Walter and his son Toni's two T6s parked at the roller gate. He was always one of the first to arrive and conjured up his smoke trails across the airfield, even in the worst weather. Together with Toni, he flew incredible displays in formation. The sound of the cracking propeller tips will stay with us forever!
His performances with the Bf109 were also legendary and are still the source of numerous stories and OTT myths today (: He was the only person who ever landed here in a jet! There are so many memories and anecdotes, they will surely provide material for evening-long conversations!
Dear Walter, we were all really looking forward to your visit this year. But your old love will be visiting us from her new home. A part of you will surely be coming with her!
Blue Skies, old warhorse, we won't forget you!
